Rock Steady Boxing
For People with Parkinson's Disease
It helps slow the progression of Parkinson’s Disease, gives our members a supportive community and network.
Improved Motor Function
Symptom Management: Parkinson's disease affects motor skills, causing tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia (slowness of movement). Rock Steady Boxing focuses on exercises that enhance coordination, agility, and strength, helping to counteract these symptoms.
Neuroplasticity: The program may promote neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to form new neural connections, which is crucial for maintaining motor function in individuals with PD.
Enhanced Balance and Stability
Fall Prevention: Many exercises in the program focus on improving posture, balance, and gait, which are often impaired in PD patients. Better balance reduces the risk of falls.
Core Strength: Strengthening core muscles helps improve stability during daily activities.
Improved Cognitive Function
Dual-Task Training: The program incorporates activities that challenge participants to think and move simultaneously, helping to enhance cognitive skills such as attention, memory, and problem-solving.
Reaction Time: Boxing drills require quick responses, helping participants maintain or improve their reaction times.
Social and Emotional Benefits
Community Support: Participants become part of a supportive community, which helps reduce feelings of isolation and depression, common among those with PD. Raw holds monthly Empower Hours (support group) for our community with presentations by the Parkinson's community.
Boosted Confidence: Successfully completing challenging workouts builds self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment.
